GrandCentral (Unified Voicemail by Google) Invites Up For Grabs

I have 10 invites to the Grand Central beta. I’ll hook you up with one if you give me a link back to Really Smart Guy and answer the question below. You can link to the main page or any individual post you like, including this one.

Leave a comment, including the link to the referring page in the “web site” field, and I’ll hook you up via email (yes, that means you need to include your real email address — don’t worry, I’m the only one who sees it).

My questions is: Why do you read Really Smart Guy? Possible answers include:

  • I don’t, I was searching for Grand Central invites and found you. Looks like a nice blog, though, so I’ve subscribed to your RSS Feed now. Got any more cool stuff to give away?
  • I can’t remember why the heck you’re in my RSS Reader. I read about 1 in every 8 posts. I especially like the posts about ____________.
  • You’re a personal friend of mine. I don’t understand half the things you rant about, but we don’t talk as much as I’d like, and this is one way of keeping in light touch.
  • I don’t know you, Smart Guy, but I’d read anything you write because _____________.
  • ________________________. (anything else)

Grand Central, btw, looks like a great service. It offers routing across several lines (e.g., dials you at your mobile, then your office, then your house, with custom routing based on the person who is calling), a web-based voicemail inbox (so you can see your voicemail inbox visually with the caller ID data), call blocking (something you can only do on your home phone today), etc. Unfortunately, international numbers are not supported. You have to have a number in the United States in order to use this service at this time.

I’ve just signed up, myself, so I don’t have any real-world evaluative experience yet, but hey, who wouldn’t want a free extra phone number? You can even get one from a red state. ;-)

  1. Wow! Offering a GC invite seems to bring a lot of traffic. I just found a bunch of blog posts with hundreds of comments. I am totally going with answer one. I have found several neat blogs while I was searching for GC. I may have to create a new category in my RSS reader for the GC early adopters :) Would you send me an invite so I can check out this cool service?

  5. I’ve been looking around for Grand Central invites when I found your blog. Looks like some very useful info, I’ve added the RSS feed to my Safari feeds. I linked to you in my myspace blog, per your suggestion :) Nothing like some bleeding edge tech. to get me excited… Thanks in advance for the invite.

  6. Hey there I found your site by googling GC invites, but I’ll stay because you’ve got some really smart stuff (that I’m actually interested in). I’ve added a link to your site on my nascent blog - http://www.screamingatflowers.com (hopefully it will be live in a couple of weeks), my RSS Reader and to my (Delicious favorites). If you still have an invite I’d love to try GC out!

  7. Hey there - you might be out of invites, but I linked to your site nonetheless. Thanks for making them available.

And in answer to your question … check my blog for the answer. It’s not updated very often, but you now have a link back.

  8. We were looking for the all mysterious google grand central invites. Well more specifically, we were googling and came across this site. Our interest isn’t only in the content of your site, but the layout and all the extras found in the margin of your blog and other blog sites we come across. The blogcatalog feature caught our attention. And for sure we’ll be checking out the spam killer feature at the bottom of this.
If you have an invite to spare, our tin cup is extended toward you.
    Peace and joy.

  9. I’m excited by this as well and even though my site is international (like most) I could still benefit from local contacts.
