Back to work (well, almost) today after a lovely long weekend… I got out of town for a few days, and despite actually working most of the day on Sunday, it was an incredibly timely respite.
My blog, however, has been off topic for the past few days as a result. Sorry about that.
During my Sunday meetings, SEO came up, and a follow on discussion today covered many things I take for granted, but seeing them articulated reminded me how important the basics are, so here’s a quick refresher on Search Engine Optimization:
<html><head><title>Put critical keywords here</title>…
This means such as headers, e.g.,
<body><h1>Put critical keywords here</h1>…
Search engines pay attention to bold (<strong> or <b>) and italicized (<em> or <i>) content, too.

Use newsgroups, forums, web directories, and like-minded bloggers to earn linkback love.
Unless directly relevant, put your link in your signature and not in the main message. Again, don’t spam.
<a href=”http://fuery.com”>Home</a>
Place keywords in your links, not outside of it.
For instance, this is lame:
Check out my blog here.
Rather, one should do this:
Check out my blog, Really Smart Guy
Really. See http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_meta.asp.
Remember that you must always be adding value. If you wouldn’t buy your own product, read your own blog, or engage your own service, then you have work to do. Get started.
