Early to bed, Early to rise

…makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. (Ben Franklin)

Well, I just made a conscious and directed effort to modify my circadian rhythms. I’ve been fighting insomnia for the past couple of months, and this past week was pretty full work-wise, so it’s been more painful than ever.

Now, I’ve been jet-lagged about 800 times, so I know how to deal with this. All it takes is a arbitrarily creating jet lag here at home. So I purposely embrace my jet lag a couple of days ago and got less than 2 hours of sleep instead of my usual 6 or preferred 8. I didn’t go to the gym and went to bed the following evening at 6pm, and voila!

This morning I was up and at ‘em, completely rested, at 4am. I put in a full day’s work by noon and even got a nap in this afternoon.

I think, at least in my case, my happiness is directly correlated with both sleep and the amount of sunshine I see daily. Ironic, considering I’m naturally a night owl if left to my own internal schedule.

At any rate, I feel good today.
