Whine: One landlord annoyance

So I receive and pay, what, 12 water bills a month? Yes, that’s right, I don’t actually know. It’s less than 12. 9 maybe. But whatever. I get a bill, I set up the account in online bill pay, I watch it the first month, I round up to the nearest $10 increment, and I put the thing on auto-pilot.

This has worked successfully for years. For instance, I had one bill that built up a credit of $500 after a few years, and I stopped paying the bill for a year. I’ve worked out the details, though, so that I usually stay just ahead of the curve.

Except for this bill I just received. It’s a bimonthly bill. I send them $60 a month. The last bill two months ago was for $120.45. So I shorted them 45 cents. Yes, 45 cents. Guess what the late charge is? $6.50.

F***ers. I probably should call them up — it would take less time than it has taken me to whine about it here. Sigh.

  1. Well, I called, and the gal I spoke to was kind enough to wave the charge “this one time as a courtesy”.

Score one point for proactivity! Now why was I whining again?
