I’ve spent all afternoon filling out the 8-page application. It took a lot longer than I anticipated because of all the transcript documentation I had to find. Turns out it’s a pain in the arse to list all of your academic history when you’ve bounced around across six schools over a dozen years.
On a plus side, however, based on the UC GPA computation instructions, I have a 3.79. Turns out taking classes credit/no-credit actually hurts you if you pass, because the number is based on the (total number of letter grade units earned) divided by the (total number of units completed). So the “credit” grade doesn’t make it into the numerator, but it does add to the denominator.
On the flip-side, failing a credit/no-credit class doesn’t hurt you at all, which helped me out a little. St. Mary’s has this stupid “assessment” class that I flunked with an NC last year. It entailed writing a bunch of essays about my life experience — stuff I didn’t really want to go over, especially the same month I found out what’s-her-name-I-thought-I’d-marry-someday was cheating.
Sigh. I guess my reluctance/flakiness with things I don’t want to do and/or deal with (or that I think are a waste of time) shows up in my academic transcript, too. Go figure. I wonder if fixing that personality flaw would make me a better person?
Anyway… Damn those two Bs I got from St. Mary’s while overseas. I’d have a 3.88 without those.
Now to finalizing that personal statement… Whoohoo!
