LAN-to-LAN VPN

Looks like it’s cheap now. Two hardware appliances like this one from NetGear should do the trick for a linking two small offices together.

I wonder if I can get netBIOS to route through ‘em? Doubt it…

  1. Turns out NetBIOS does route through the NetGear appliances, so you can nicely map windows shares across your VPN.

    Unfortunately, however, even with the latest firmware, the VPN tunnel seems to collapse/crash pretty regularly. I have both ends set to reset themselves nightly at midnight, but backing up over NetBIOS across the two locations still fails most of the time.

    Even when it’s incremental.
